Final Alaska adventure: a flightseeing tour of Denali in the snow

We will catch up on our last big Alaska adventure. In November 2017, we booked a tour we had been wanting to check off our Alaska bucket list: a flightseeing tour of Denali. We flew with K2 Aviation in Talkeetna and were able to fly in and around the great wonder that is Denali. We were lucky to have a perfectly clear day.

Denali herself!

The snow, ice, moraine, and glacial formations were so stunning. We were in awe of the magic of water and all that it does.

Our pilot told us about various climbing records and feats that had occurred here, including the incredible story of Naomi Uemura, the first man to summit Denali ALONE, IN THE WINTER. If you Google Mr. Uemura, you’ll see that he completed many solo mountaineering feats. I can’t imagine the level of meditation you must reach when you’re engulfed by so much danger and remoteness. Sadly, Mr. Uemura was never seen again after he summited Denali alone in February 1984.
